iGIS Examine App

iGis : Très bonne application SIG pour iPhone.

Je trouve que cest une application formidable, elle est simple à utiliser et efficace. Mais lapplication peut encore être améliorée...

Avec la double constellation gps et glonass juste un pur bonheur !

Best GIS on iOS

For my needs, this is the best GIS / GPS app for iOS. You can quickly and easily load, view, and edit shapefiles in a streamlined interface without a bunch of hassle. For more complicated field data collection and editing, you might want ArcPad, but if you want to do something straightforward like locate yourself in relationship to GIS layers and add record features, iGIS is dramatically more enjoyable to use and has a fraction of the learning curve. Oh, and you can have layers with different coordinate systems!

Awesome

This app is great if you are familiar with GIS. I work for a water utility and after loading in our shape files, this works like a dream.

Cool but misleading in some respects

I have been trying to find an easy-to-use GIS app to incorporate shapefiles and raster data into my daily fieldwork. I was excited to find this one, and it does have its perks. There are tons of choices for projections and the interface is pretty intuitive (with some major exceptions). There are quite a few inconveniences and drawbacks, however. - To import raster data you have to have processed it using MapTiler, an open source software program that is only free if your images are smaller than a certain size (we are talking like 30 MB or less here) which is just not feasible for someone doing actual GIS work. - All of the raster and shapefiles must be zipped and hosted on Dropbox (which is cool and convenient if you have enough space) - you can also use a USB. - There is no intuitive way to add the imported layers to your project, and there does not appear to be a help file for the latest release, so this is somewhat frustrating (and as I write this I still have not figured out how to add my imported shapefiles). - Would be nice if it displayed your location or coordinates anywhere in the free version since there are free apps that also do this.

Chump

All your files must be zipped to add. I don't have stuff zipped. What a pain. I like to add files from here and there. Looks cool though, probably won't use it.

No hassle point collector

I was looking for a quick app to collect points around town and this app lets you dive right in.

Great App

I'm really impressed by this app for the price. I've loaded a variety of shp files into it and it seems to work with them really well, in fact, possibly better than my Trimble Recon I.E. scrolling, getting attribute info... You can record points, lines, & polygons. Also, it caches Google Maps.

App Crashes

Works pretty good most of the time. Tends to crash a lot. Need to work that out

Excellent

Great app at a great price. I use this app almost everyday for work. One suggestion would be a way to download base map files to use in areas of no reception.

Mixed feelings about new release

I've been loving the app and have bragged about its versatility. I use it everyday, all day in my work truck doing field work and in the office. All of my apple devices have it. My primary device is my 4th gen iPad with cellular. The app crashed frequently, especially when changing data settings. That was ok because I knew the update was coming. The phone version made me really excited because of the new map gestures and google maps. However the iPad app has been very frustrating. Constant crashing, lethargic map loading, and the failure of the zoom scale have plagued my device. The phone app has not crashed as often and is faster on the map loading. However the zoom scale is still dead. Hope you guys get this fixed! A little heads up on future fixes would be nice!

A real work horse

This has to be the best free App ever. As an operator of a municapal sewage system, iGIS bring all of my office info out into the feild where its needed most. It is simply to operate once shape files are loaded and gives you the ability to edit data. All and all this would be a vaule at hundereds of dollars like the rest of my GIS software costs, yet its free!!!

GIS Mapper

This would be much more useful if it were able to read ESRI .prj files. Manually selecting your projection is not always user friendly and it is cumbersome. Also, it would be much appreciated if it had Alaska state plane in feet like so many other states. It is a rare app. I like the ability to read and write shapefiles. Especially the ability to store them local.

wish it would work

Have come back to this app after giving up on it due to it crashing. This version is worse than ever. Crashes constantly when editing. Wish it would work! In the past they have been good at responding. Lets hope they do now too and fix it finally.

Awesome.

This app is amazing, and it's free! I don't know of any other free app that allows creation, import and export of any sort if data. Once you figure out the interface, it's pretty easy to use too.

Best Field GIS that I have found.

first off...the ability to add spatial data to the device is huge. not being dependant upon wifi or 3g connectivity makes data collection in rural areas possible. project set-up is much more intuitive and quicker than any of the ArcMobile products (including their iOS application). While there are some features still lacking, field data collection is not possible without project se-up being too taxing on my limited time.

Almost perfect for it's intended use

I really like this application. The engine interface is quite easy to use and the import routine works well. Our custom aerials (< gig) and line-work load seamless and look great. The app will crash at times, however I've had a problem with several apps doing the same. I attribute to the hardware. Would love to see better waypoint navigation on the fly as switching from pan to edit gets a bit frustrating. Would also like to be able to use hyperlinks for photos and PDF type files, I think the current os is limiting this app. A windows based tablet would probably grant the ability for multiple apps or widgets to be open in the background. Great app, I've enjoyed it.

Best GIS app on the iPhone

Love this app, I use it everyday for work. There are some features I'd love to see added, such as a measurement tool. However the things I'd want to see added would only be minor improvements to a great app. I've been more than happy to replace a huge non-dynamic map book or a bulky Trimble with my iPhone.

Excellent app

Great interface and speedy. Please add the ability to display labels for specific shape files. With that I would then recommend to my clients that would use it in the field. Lots of potential licenses.

Great Start

This has the potential to be a viable tool for our City. Once they add new features for advanced editing we plan to use this in the field for our inspectors. I am looking forward to their next update. Way to go Geometry Team!

Excellent App

This app works excellent in the field and the method of import and export of shape files is so user friendly. I like the capability to create point type observations and export that info also.

Crashes all the time

$30 for this?

Works great

I had no problems with this app. The reported "crash" on opening only happens if you do not close the app in a previous session. At worst, you just have to open it twice. I am an engineer and surveyor and was able to upload all the City map shapefiles and using the gps function in my 3GS, field locate manholes, valves, flood plains, and property data. Best $30 I have spent!!

Crash, crash, crash

That's all it does...

Crash

Crash on start up. iPhone 3gs v3.1.2.

Amazing

Don't have any crashing issues and uploading data is great. This is really helpful for getting oriented in the field. It would be awesome though if you could append a point with a georeferenced photo. Great app!

Editing

Cool app. I do a lot of GIS workaday this is a unique way of looking at maps while not in a stationary location. I would like to see the cross hairs when editing to be darkened and the accuracy be improved. Still getting used to it and am not sure how useful it will end up being.

Customer service lacking!!

I also am a Land Surveyor, and had high hopes, but I coughed up $30.00 for this and really wish it would work. I am able to admit I maybe doing something wrong, but can get no response from the company to help me figure it out. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!! Very sad, this LOOKS like the best GIS app out there. PLEASE get your customer support on the ball!

A work in progress that is well worth the money

For anyone who has GIS data they would like to display on an iphone this is the app. Their data upload is very slick. Initially I had difficulty getting the projection that we use at work to execute, but the support was very responsive and I was able to get it going in short order. For those who use WGS84, you will have no difficulties. Since I bought it there have been several good updates and the developers seem to be actively upgrading the app. Hopefully they will continue to add more options for symbology and labeling. Some of the earlier comments indicate difficulty with exported shapefiles and the like. I too ran into a problem with one shapefile, but I sent it to the developer and they found the problem and updated the app. (FYI: I work on a water distribution system and the program easily handled 14 different point and line shapefile sets, each with 1,000 to 6,000 features (I did use zoom levels to help with performance.))

Finally GIS on the iPhone

Just bought this app a couple days ago. I've imported a few shapefiles from work and they all have worked so far. I have a few suggestions. Work on symbology for multiple categories in each shapefiles. Allowing imports of layers would help with this. A more intuitive table of contents for layer adjustment, toggling and symbolism would be great. Create a toolbar for Id, measure, area, and selection. An option for attribute selection and export of selection as shp would be ideal. A toolbar with some simple analysis tools such as buffer, union, and intersect would make this a more practical program. Also, last but not least an editor feature that allows for polygon and line editing and feature creation as well as attrribute field editing would be awesome. This is a lot to ask for in a handheld GIS app, but I am looking forward to new updates. So far I'm quite impressed with this. You can't beat it for $20!!

Good basic GIS viewer

Waited until ver 2.1. Only issue I have is loading shp files with multi-part polygons (multiple polygons with a single attribute record). This is a typical issue when using Google Maps. Like the app. Keep adding more features...

Updates Now make it 5 stars

This is a great GIS application. I reviewed the first version of this App and only gave it three stars. Since then they have fixed the issues and added the great thematic coloring feature. In addition, they have been very responsive to my critiques and suggested modifications. It is a relief to deal with such a responsive company. I highly recommend this application.

Do not buy this

Very buggy and most importantly- it does not work. All of my info loads in, but displays nothing and provides none of the attribute info that comes with my shape file. I payed $40.00 bucks for this and thus far (3 days ), I have not received any feedback. ---------2nd review after version 2.0 released. Beware!!! This is a review for the igeometry GIS app. Please note this review is based on extensive evaluations of both versions. First let's start with the obvious- the software does not work with my shape file. That being said, the installation of shape file went fairly effortlessly, and all of my attributes loaded in correctly. Although the attributes loaded in, none of the data did. NOTHING! To charge 40 bucks for this and not have anything work is most bothersome and remains the single most app ripoff that I have purchased so far. Emailing for support has been a waste of time, with no feedback from the developers. I Use ARCVIEW at work so I know the file is a good one, and since everything loaded in correctly, with no error messages, the files are definitely not the problem. Do not buy this software unless they offer a free version first. Paul Turner

Getting better

Wow, I must of been lucky. Mostly it works for me. Yes it does crash once in a while and for some reason it will not import 3 of my layers but other than that it keeps getting better after every revision. All my attribute data shows up perfect.

Not so good.....

I am a professional land surveyor and has high hopes for this application. This software is presently just shy of junk. Amazing when it works but it rarely does especially with larger datasets. Crashes OFTEN. I would like my money back. Twenty dollars is a lot of money for this piece of shoddy programming.

Did anybody bother to test this thing?

Don't get me wrong, I like the basic idea, which is why I coughed up $20, but did anybody bother to test this thing? It's completely unusable -- it crashes at every corner. I can't believe they have the gall to even put this up for sale! Fix it, and I'll revise my opinion, but for now this is a big fat THUMBS DOWN. And I'm asking Apple for my money back.

Great for field vertification.

Good GIS program for field vertification. I like that I can take 400 MB with of shapefiles and view them in the field. Wish they would add the ability to import custom imagery instead of depending on Google. I have encountered a couple of bugs that crash the software. In addition, I can't get any features symbology to be brown. Always converts it to yellow. Other than that, great tool for my iTouch.

Great start

The import works great and I am able to put very large amounts of data on the map. I have not been able to get the export to work. Nothing shows up in the list. The app needs some enhancements but a very good first version.
